  RELIEF PROGRAMS

UCF works with local NGO’s, missionaries, churches and local village organizations to give assistance to children and families who live in the poorest regions and in many cases in areas of war and conflicts. Working with local organizations allows us to provide what is needed, where it is needed at the local village level. Your gift is used to provide maximum assistance in the most efficient way.

Northern Uganda - A war on Children

For 18 years rebels with no agenda have terrorized Uganda’s north with a war on children. At least 20,000 children have been kidnapped and brutalized into becoming fighters. The fighting is by, with and against children. Each night nearly 40,000 children and mothers leave their homes each evening and walk miles to towns where they hope to sleep safely. Each morning the walk back to their villages to work and attend school.

Now, there is some hope. Rebels are surrendering under an amnesty, children are returning to their homes and families. We will continue to assist these families and children to rebuild their homes and farms.

Sudan - Devastation in Darfur

One of the longest running conflicts in Africa has been in the southern regions of Sudan. For nearly fifty years, the Sudanese people have suffered the effects of fighting and unrest.

Darfur, a region of western Sudan has become a household word as the violence, unrest and genocide against its people is finally receiving world attention. Reports estimate that more than 2 million people have fled their homes and are living in camps in Sudan. At least 180,000 Sudanese have died in Darfur and more than 200,000 people have fled to the refugee camps in neighboring Chad.

The bulk of the need is emergency relief, food and shelter, water and sanitation projects. These compliment basic educational programs including farming and other income projects. One of the best responses to the violence in Sudan is to give the people the ability to return to stability.

Sudan remains a very high priority for agencies; by working together we can generate resources to help resolve the crises.

The recent tsunamis in Asia have drastically reduced the aid coming to Sudan and other regions of Africa. The donor response to the tsunami disaster was overwhelming from around the world. Like other organizations we are grateful for the tremendous assistance provided for the tsunami relief.

However, 200,000 people die every month in Africa from AIDS, malaria and other preventable diseases. This means, Africa has a tsunamis every month. Unfortunately for the people suffering in Africa the amount given to assist them is very low.

Now is the most urgent and critical time for assisting the people in the war torn regions of Africa.

With your help all things are possible!
